May Club Ride
The club ride for May will be to Robber's Roost on May 10. Our guide will be Ted Ekker. We will meet at the gravel pit 1/2 mile south of the Hanksville exit on I-70 at 9:00 A.M.A lot of the ride will be on roads and it will be about 50 miles. Bring a lunch and 2-way radios (if you have them) to insure that information gets to more people down the line. You can use them like a PA system when we all gather to hear Ted tell his stories. See you there!
2008 Swell Cure for Cabin Fever
What a glorious day it was for the Poker Ride! Moving the ride back to April 12 was a great idea. It was sunny and warm and more than 200 riders felt the same way. Registration began at 8 A.M. and the prize giveaway began at 3 P.M. As always, Tom Brereton put together a super load of prizes and everyone who attended seemed to enjoy the day. Many riders came from out of the area and were visiting the Swell for the first time. They all agreed to come back and spend more time exploring this area.
"FAST" (Fix a Shaft Today)
Mark Mesch has a message to give to all ohv riders, geocachers, and anyone else who uses the San Rafael Swell, which is mostly BLM lands. This area is honeycombed with old mines, mine shafts, and other mine features. With the changing landscape and weather conditions, many of these features become more dangerous over time.     The F.A.S.T. program is designed for anyone who discovers a new and dangerous feature in the Swell. Recently a new sink hole was discovered in an old mining area of the Swell. This hole was very large and posed serious risks to users. OHV riders discovered it during the Easter weekend. After it was reported to the BLM, the FAST program and the BLM went to work to fence off the area until reclamation work could commence. Everyone who uses the Swell is urged to report anything unsafe to the BLM office in Price. The number is 435-636-3460.
